Are we optimizing for impact – or just more action?

Most teams have never been given the space to answer that question out loud. This is largely because many organizations and teams are moving so fast, under increasing pressure, that there’s hardly time to think about the distinction – let alone address it.

When we’re under pressure we default to action. More meetings. More strategy sessions. More hours with a whiteboard or our favorite chat bot. We generate. We plan. We fill our lives with motion. And before we know it we’re looking like Lucy and Ethel on the chocolate line.

But what if this was the moment in our collective history where we could be making the biggest impact of our lives?

The world we live in is calling for it.  With so much of the old falling away, what if making an impact meant creating a new way?

Where genuine heart-based connection replaces performative compatibility. Where co-creation replaces siloed execution. And where intuition and trust replace mental gymnastics and fear.

What if making an impact had less to do with reaching far and wide, an effort that can feel like a drop in a bucket – and more to do with tending to what is nearest and dearest to our hearts? And radiating out from there? Receiving the support and creative energy from others like us?

What I’m describing is a seed. A seed that we planted at Matriarc over a year ago when we were talking about what this new way means, and how Matriarc wants to be at the center of it, somehow.

And that seed is called Resonance.

Everything begins with Resonance. The seed of Connection.  Which is the lifeblood of Impact.

Resonance is a feeling.

It’s a physical, palpable, energetic experience.  That feeling you get when you read something and it just lands so perfectly for you? Resonance. Or when a friend or colleague says something that makes you say “Yes!” or “That’s right!”.  Resonance. It makes you lean in for more.

Resonance is buoyant. Activating. And it is the seed of connection.

And the more you feel it, the more you feed it, the more you share it, the more it builds in power.

As strategists, this is where we spend a lot of our time at Matriarc. Looking for ways to help our clients achieve more resonance – within their teams, among their vendors, and ultimately their core audiences and communities.

Arrow arching from Dissonance to Resonance

But sometimes it’s can be tough to outline all the ways something feels resonant. Sometimes it’s not enough to list all of the ways an idea or mission feels correct.

Sometimes it helps to think of the opposite of mission. In our work, we call this a brand fight.  What is it that we’re battling against?

In the case of Resonance, that adversary is Dissonance. And it too is palpable.

It’s the groan before having to do something you don’t want to.

It’s the saying “yes” when you mean no, and the feeling like all the energy has been sucked out of your body.

It’s knowing something to be true, but censoring it.

Dissonance feels heavy. Deflating. Frustrating. Tired.

Dissonance can be summed up in one phrase: Gen Z stare.

The arc from dissonance to resonance rarely announces itself.

It usually begins with one thing: someone in the room finally saying what everyone already knew but hadn’t given themselves permission to name.

That moment of recognition — that collective exhale — is where resonance begins. Trust starts to move. Ideas that were stuck start to surface. The work stops feeling like an uphill battle and starts building momentum.

REAL™ Connection Workshop Series by Matriarc Brand Strategy

REAL™ Connection is a series of themed workshops and strategic sessions designed to help teams move from surface-level alignment to deep, human-centered Resonance – within themselves, among each other, and across the organization.

Whether your team is navigating a culture shift, a budget reset, a leadership transition, a brand refresh, or simply the weight of this particular moment in history – REAL™ Connection is designed to meet you there.

We work in single half-day sessions or multi-session arcs spanning several weeks, creating the conditions for the right ideas to surface and the clarity to move on them.
